The hidden barriers preventing capable students from showing what they truly understand.

You've seen it before.

A student can contribute to discussion.
They can answer questions verbally.
They often understand far more than they are able to demonstrate in their written work.

Yet when it's time to work independently:

• The page stays blank

• The task never gets started

• The assessment remains unfinished

• The final submission doesn't reflect what they actually know

Many teachers are being told this is a motivation problem.

Or a behaviour problem.

Or a resilience problem.

But what if something else is happening beneath the surface?

In this free teacher training, you'll discover why many capable students struggle to demonstrate their knowledge and what teachers can do to better support them.

This Training Is For

• Secondary school teachers • English teachers • Humanities teachers • Learning support staff • SENCOs • Deans and pastoral leaders • Teachers supporting neurodivergent learners • Teachers who know their students are capable of more

THIS TRAINING IS NOT ABOUT LOWERING EXPECTATIONS

This training is about understanding why capable students sometimes struggle to demonstrate their learning and how we can better support them without reducing academic rigour.

Because when students can finally communicate what they know, confidence grows, engagement improves, and learning becomes far more visible.

MEET YOUR PRESENTER

Hi, I'm Francesca Hudson.

I've spent over 23 years teaching English Literature, Social Studies, Drama, and Ancient History.

Throughout my teaching career, I've been fascinated by one question:

Why do some intelligent, capable students continue to struggle despite understanding the content?

Over time, that question led me into deeper exploration of executive function, cognitive load, neurodiversity, writing instruction, and student confidence.

In this training, I'll share the practical insights and classroom strategies I've developed through years of teaching and working with students who know far more than they're often able to demonstrate.
