Day 5 of 6: Build Your Family Start Plan

Over the past four days, you've discovered something important.

Getting started isn't just about motivation.

It's about understanding what helps your teenager take that very first step.

Ā

Today, you'll bring everything you've learned together.

Ā

By the end of this activity, you'll have your own personalised Family Start Plan—a simple guide that you and your teenager can return to whenever writing feels overwhelming.

Today's Shared Activity

This is the second activity you'll complete together.

Your teenager will have the chance to choose:

  • how they prefer to begin
  • what kind of environment helps them settle
  • what support feels helpful
  • what counts as a successful start
  • what should happen if the first plan doesn't work

You'll also choose two small promises you'd like to make as the parent.

Together, you'll build a plan that belongs to your family—not one copied from a book or website.

Before You Begin

Find a quiet ten minutes when neither of you is in the middle of homework.

The goal isn't to solve every writing struggle today.

It's simply to agree on a few small things that make getting started feel more possible.

Remember, there are no perfect answers.

This plan isn't permanent.

You'll be able to change it as you discover what works best for your family.

One Important Thought

The best support plans aren't created for teenagers.

They're created with them.

When young people have a voice in how they are supported, they're much more likely to feel understood—and much more willing to try.

Today's conversation is about listening as much as planning.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow, you'll complete your final Confidence Check.

You'll look back at where you began on Day 1, celebrate what you've discovered over the past six days, and receive a personalised recommendation for the next stage of your teenager's writing journey.

One small step really can change what happens next.
